I’m glad to hear you enjoy the blog and Modern Family! If you ask me, that ask was definitely intentionally attacking. It started off nice and seemingly respectful, but then turned patronizing. I don’t think that there’s a category “fuck yeah blogs” and a set of guidelines how they’re supposed to be run? The thing is that, this blog is not like a fansite, it’s not a service of any kind, so I run it pretty much the way I run my personal blog. A lot of the messages I get are demanding and not too kind, some of the opinions people send in are negative, but what am I supposed to do about it? I acknowledge people’s opinions and don’t post the most negative ones.
Thank you!! I feel like you defnitely get my way of answering asks! Thanks again!
I get what you mean. I guess that’s a nice way to think of things, a good value system. I view things differently though - I believe that no one is under any obligation to do anything ever, as long as they are willing to face the consequences. For example, I’m not obliged to respect the opinions people send in, but then I’ll have to deal with people being angry and thinking I’m an asshole.
These things have nothing to do with Modern Family and unless someone has something really important to say, I’d like to close the discussion about this. :]
Do you have a favorite character and/or couple the show?
Ahh, thanks for asking! Well, I think at the moment Lily would be one of my top ones, but like many people, I can’t really choose a favorite either. Luke used to be my favorite, but like I’ve said before, I’m not a fan of how his character was handled this season. Ah, also, Andy of course! As for couple, I can’t really choose, all the couples have great things about them!
Joining the discussion about season 5 from earlier, I think it was better than season 4. It still lacked something compared to the first three, but overall I think they were able to make the characters interesting again.
Yeah, I think the focus was more on character development and that succeeded. I can’t say if I agree that it’s better than season 4 cause I can’t seem to compare them in my head, but anyway, glad you enjoyed it! Let’s hope season 6 will be more balanced and engaging!
Hi, this is just a comment on your ask-answer style. I understand when you absolutely do not tolerate horrible comment about the show or characters…and I fully support that! However, I feel even toward some NEUTRAL, NORMAL, UNEXTREME and OPINION based asks and comments you are very condescending and rude. How is that supportive? I understand that you're passionate about the show but this is also a forum for discussion. Please remember that when you try and run an online blog on this site. Thanks
Hi there. That you for the input. Can you show me some examples where I’ve been rude and condescending towards people who were merely expressing normal, unextreme opinion? Because I always try to be very patient and understanding and try to make a point that I repsect everyone’s opinions even when I don’t agree.
Let’s get some things clear:
this is not a forum for discussion - this is an online blog dedicated to Modern Family; the creator of this blog made it with the intention to post and reblog things related to the show, things made in appreciation of the show and I am sticking to this concept. i run this blog for my pleasure and for the pleasure of people who enjoy the show. this is not a confessions blog.
i love it when people send in opinions - it creates room for discussion and i try to be respectful while stating my own opinion. sometimes people send in things like “i like this and this character but dislike that one”. what am i supposed to say to that? sometimes i try to be funny, but most of the time i have nothing to add, so i just publish the asks in a batch with a little comment from me - that way the person’s opinion is acknowledged and it’s out there.
i am under no obligation to be nice to anyone or even respect anyone’s opinions OR be supportive. hell, i’m not even obliged to answer any of these asks? but this blog has a ton of followers which i’m massively thankful for and i love interacting with them, so i take the time to answer everything and try to comment on everything, engage people in discussions and be nice, i like doing that. every now and then i try to be funny, but i don’t think i’ve ever been unjustly rude.
i’m just a dude who runs a blog about a tv show, not a discussion moderator
don’t patronize me

Claire, Jay, & Alex are my favourite; they're all so funny and quirky it's hilarious. I honestly find the rest of the character's kind of annoying, but they can be entertaining now and then. Sorry for this random moment, just had to share my thoughts.
How do you watch the show if most of the characters annoy you then? :?
I think the diversity of opinions shows that Jay’s character is complex enough to draw reactions from all over the spectrum. If you ask me, he’s purposefully created to be kind of boring at times to some because he’s part of the older generation, he has different values even though he’s evolving quite a bit. Personally, I don’t really like him a lot, but I appreciate how a lot of issues are challenged through him.
I don't think I could get rid of any character, the show wouldn't e the same without them. But it would be fun to see Cam and Mitch without Lily. It would be a lot of fun to see them in their party days with Sal and Pepper. But like I said, the show wouldn't have the same dynamic without any of the main cast. ^.^
Ohh, true! I’d love to get a flashback on their party days too!
Not hating or anything, but i just feel like they give Haley wayyy to much swagger in terms of her "hotness". Like they make it seem like shes the hottest girl in the world with the way she seems to attract every guy she encounters. In reality, she has a cute face and that's really it, no body to speak of whatsoever. That said, I like how they actually had her character grow this season and be more than just a pretty face or a walking dumb blonde" joke.
I don’t know what to tell you, to be honest, I’m not a good judge of female attractiveness but Sarah Hyland seems very pretty to me? Also, I haven’t noticed every guy she encounters being attracted to her? I think anything like that has especially been dulled down in the latest season. And yes, I like that too, I think they’re handling her character very well.
Wow. Your asks have taken a really dark turn. I don't hate any of the characters, but my opinion of the viewers is rapidly declining.
Most of the people who message me are very nice and reasonable, but people are people and there’s bound to be assholes, right? That particular anon who kept sending me very rude messages is one of them, so. But anyway, as is stated in the FAQ, nothing offensive is going to be tolerated. I don’t want to have to turn off anon. As of right now, the askbox is closed because I have too many messages.
The problem with Luke is the same problem faced by "dumb characters" on a lot of shows--Joey on Friends or Eric on Boy Meets World, for example--their stupidity gets a lot of laughs and the writers make them almost cartoonishly stupid. I think season six will see Luke growing up a bit (wasn't it this last season where he realized the behavior that made him popular in middle school was making him an outcast in high school?).
Ah, you nailed it. Yeah, that’s what I’ve been saying, he had some character development this season, but it seemed unconvincing and his dumbness was very exaggerated. Me too, I hope they handle things better with him next season.
I recall in one of your responses you said we all have that one character we can't stand. For me, I would say that's Luke. In the earlier seasons, not so much. His stupidity was funny and cute. But as he got older, I've found that there's only a certain point it can go before it becomes annoying. I feel bad about it sometimes.
It’s sad that you’d feel that way cause I think Luke’s character isn’t meant to be this way. It’s just that, I think, in season 5 especially, Luke didn’t get much character development and they exaggerated his dumbness, it went a little too far. I’ve said it before, it reminds of how Max from Wizards of Waverly Place developed - some of his stupid stunts are hilarious, but most of the time they kind of fall flat. I hope they handle his character better next season!
I actually really liked the 5th season and tend to rewatch more episodes from that season. I think it's because the characters have more development. As much as I love humor, I still want the characters to be 3-dimensional.
I agree, character development is improtant and season 5 seemed to focus more on that.
I gotta tell you, I was one of the people who dissed (is that how it's spelled?) season 5, but lately I've been having some insomnias and I basically rewatched the entire season in two nights and it definetely grew on me. I guess I was too quick to judge. The season was good, actually. Anyway, cheers (:
Well! Good to hear your opinion’s changed that way then! Maybe when you watch it all at once it makes more sense, you get a better sense of continuity, whereas when we only get an episode a week or so a big part of the effect is lost. I still think it had some weaknesses, but it’s good to hear you enjoyed re-watching it!
Hey same person with the best comedy series question. Im new the modern family fandom, so can you explain to me why people think season 5 wasn't as strong? Also, I've already watched all the episodes.
Hi. Huge apologies for not replying sooner, but aside from everything else, I’ve also been contemplating how to respond. To be honest, I can’t say any objective reason why season 5 wasn’t as strong. Personally, I just found most of the episodes, apart from the last 5-6 maybe, not memorable and slightly bland. Perhaps the humor got a bit repetitive? And people who have been messaging me seem to think it wasn’t as strong too, yes. Overall, I think it was a good season, there was plenty of character development and good scenes, but maybe the humor needs refreshing.
Do you know some episodes that have a lot of Haley in them?
Some episodes that center more around Haley that I can think of are “Three Dinners” (5x13) and “iSpy” (5x14) from season 5, and “Schooled” (4x02), “Party Crasher” (4x12) and “Arrested” (4x07) in season 4.
